Please join me, Heather Sutherland, ASID, RID, LEED AP BD+C, for a look into being an interior designer in the commercial design world. After going back to school to get my master’s in interior design, I’ve been working for Perkins&Will, a global commercial architecture and design firm, ever since. I work primarily in education, but our Austin office also focuses on commercial interiors, like workplace and multi-family residential design. I'm passionate about sustainability and creating healthy spaces for people to live and learn in. As a focus of our firm, I’d love to share how we incorporate sustainable design into our work. If you sign up for my Shadow Experience, you'll get to spend time with some our Interior Design Principals and Project Designers. We'll meet in our east Austin office where you'll sit in on internal meetings and charettes so you can see how we collaborate on design. Over the course of the day we'll meet with a vendor, meet virtually or in-person with a client, and potentially get to visit a job site. You will need to wear business casual attire, but please wear closed toed shoes (no high heels) and long pants in case we visit a construction site. FYI: I’m taking up to 2 students for this experience.
