LEADERS IN DESIGN Scholarship

SAVANNAH AVERY, ASID Student
Hard things bring out the worst in some people, and the best in others. Why is that? I like to think that it is because hard things bring out the deepest, truest parts of people for all to see. I can proudly say that I chose to pursue hard things even through adversity I didn’t choose for myself. While I would never have chosen a diagnosis of cancer for my mom, who is also my best friend, nothing has shaped me more over the past four years into the person I am today. |
DIVERSITY IN DESIGN Scholarship
PRESENTED BY:
|
SKYE VIELLE, ASID Student
I am grateful for my identity [as half African American, Haitian woman, and military child in the USA] and my upbringing for it has shaped me into the wonderful woman I am today. I strive to always be true to myself and embrace those identities and experiences. In a country where a lot of my identities do not fit into the norms, I strive to keep letting my light shine and embracing my differences and identities. |
RISING STARS IN DESIGN Scholarship
PRESENTED BY:
|
ZARIAH ID-DEEN, ASID Student
Becoming an interior designer has been a goal of mine since graduating from high school, after taking the time to reflect on what I wanted to do with my life. Remembering the stories of my late grandmother, who passed away just before I graduated, and knowing she had a dream of being an interior designer, made this industry even more appealing to my heart. We were very close. We had the kind of connection where the love didn't need to be spoken; it was felt in every inch of our bodies. We would hug and hold each other so tightly and cry tears of pure endearment, almost as if our hearts and souls were bound. |
VOLUNTEERS IN DESIGN Scholarship
PRESENTED BY:
|
AVA GARZA, ASID Student
[After a semester volunteering for Habitat for Humanity] I witnessed firsthand how interiors are not limited to aesthetics. Rather they have the power to shape lives and strengthen communities. My experiences reminded me that meaningful design begins with understanding people, not just spaces. I hope to inspire future designers to think beyond the studio: to lead with empathy, connect with purpose, and use their creativity in service of others. |
