Please join me, Whitney Smelser, Allied ASID to learn more about the real world of interior design. I began my career as a Designer at New Edge Design Studio, a Model Home Merchandising company. There I had the pleasure of working alongside New Edge Design Studio’s Principal Designers on more than fifty projects in various stages of the design process. Including pulling schemes, furniture, art, and accessorizing homes, which represent a curated design for each specific site and client. However, I wanted to strengthen my design acumen and pivoted to Commercial Interiors at Levy Architects. Daily tasks included a balance of creative thinking in Concept Development through Design Development then into technical drawings required to complete a Construction Document set for permitting. Not too long ago I had the pleasure of meeting the Owner and CEO of MidCentury Custom Homes. I enjoyed the company and design passion so much I made the jump into residential design as the Lead Interior Designer. A decision I am still thrilled with today. Sign up for my Shadow Experience and we’ll start off by meeting at my office in Bee Creek (West of Austin) where I’ll introduce you to our Interior Design Staff, Architecture Staff and Procurement. You’ll get a tour of our offices and Design Center, explain how we collaborate on projects and how we meet our clients’ needs. You’ll get to spend some one-on-one time with Design and Architecture staff to gain a broader understanding on how to build and design a custom home. Most likely during the course of the day we’ll meet with at least one vendor either at our office, sit in on a client meeting (if the schedule permits), and/or get to visit a job site. Please wear business casual attire (which means no sweats, t-shirts or athleisure wear) and bring a pair of boots or shoes with thick soles for the site visit. Looking forward to hosting you! FYI: I’m taking up to 2 students for this experience.
