(Mon) Kathryn Nelson
Hi, I'm Kathryn Nelson, Allied ASID. Shadow me and I'll take you on a real-life day at KND (Kathryn Nelson Design). We'll start our morning off by meeting in the Dallas Design Center where I may share my "ASID Story" which started off as a student just like you. From there, I’ll check in with my team (Heather & Ioana, two junior designers who are working from home) via WhatsApp. Next, we'll peruse a few showrooms to select some missing fabrics for some active FFE projects, I’ll share what projects we’re working on currently, pick up some finish samples for another client and pop by an active job site for some site confirmations and developer to-dos. At KND, we specialize in high-end design services for residential new construction and renovations. KND will be turning four this spring and I’ll share how we adapted (and still are) during COVID and these unprecedented times as a Dallas business owner. I’ve been an interior designer for ten years and am now juggling my work-life balance while studying for the NCIDQ exam with a newborn. I’ve learned to work smart not hard in all of this. Prior to now, I’ve worked on residential, commercial, hospitality and multi-family projects across the US, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America for two prestigious Dallas-based firms. I’ll share the importance of working for someone else prior to launching into starting your own firm. Be prepared to hustle with me (I move, talk, and work efficiently) and learn a lot. Please wear business casual and comfortable walking shoes (no athleisure or sweats, jeans are acceptable). Eager to meet you! FYI: I’m taking up to 3 students for this experience.
